Carmichael’s Bookstore is Louisville’s oldest independently run bookstore since they opened their doors 39 years ago. We work with Carmichael’s to create the classic labels they put on their bags. What Makes Carmichael’s Bookstore Unique
Carmichael’s has always called The Highlands home, but when the first location was opened on Bardstown Road in 1978 at the corner of Bonnycastle, the area was not at all the bustling entertainment and cultural hub it is today. In 1983, they moved into the building they’re in today at the corner of Bardstown Road and Longest Avenue. Shortly after, Heine Brothers (another company we work with!) moved into the same building and Ramsi’s Cafe on the World opened right next door. The Carmichael’s corner quickly became one of the busiest destinations on Bardstown Road.
After thriving on Bardstown Road, Carmichael’s opened a second location in 1999 in the Crescent Hill neighborhood on Frankfort Avenue, which is another lively area packed with local restaurants and shops. A long-time dream of the owners was fulfilled in 2014 when Carmichael’s Kid’s opened a few doors down from the original location on Bardstown Road. This location offers events for kids and a weekly story time.
Additionally, Carmichael’s host many different authors throughout the year for book signings and discussions. Be sure to like them on Facebook to be informed of their upcoming events. Naturally, Carmichael’s is a big supporter of book clubs and offer special discounts for book clubs in Louisville. If you are part of a book club, you can register the club with Carmichael’s for discounts, book suggestions, and more.
What makes Carmichael’s unique is their family values and dedication to bringing quality books and providing gathering places to the communities they are located in. Books are hand-picked and reflect the tastes of the owners and the areas the stores are located in.
