Lots of trends have surfaced thus far in 2019- some good, some bad, and some noteworthy. At the end of 2018, we made some projections of trends we thought would surface in 2019. Some the predictions we made for trends within the label industry were true, and some did not. Today we want to explore all of the trend predictions we had at the end of 2018 on our blog and see which ones were accurate and which did not hit the mark for this year. Also, we suggested some tips for how to make your brand more competitive this year. At Louisville Label, we are committed to creating the best quality, unique labels for our clients that will make your brand stand out. Whether is it keeping up with trends, or sticking to the basics- we can create custom labels that will suit your needs.
1. Key Ingredients and Differentiators on the Front Label
The first trend we predicted for 2019 was the continued use of key ingredients and differentiators for products on the front label. This trend has continued and grown throughout 2019. More and more consumers want to know what ingredients are in their food, without having to read through a long list on the back of the label. In today’s world, many consumers are focused on health and want to know that when it comes to food and drinks, they are putting healthy ingredients into their bodies. Colorful pictures and large font wording of the healthy ingredients that are inside of their products will make consumers gravitate to that product over another that has boring packaging.
2. Research Competitors
No matter what the year, trends, or happenings within the industry, it is always a good idea to research what your competitors are doing and how effective their labels are. If your labels are falling behind others, you can take inspiration from their strategies and spin them to become your own and see how you could win. Or the opposite is also true. If your competitors are not doing well within the market, assess what kinds of label techniques are they are using and steer clear of those. This will help you to differentiate yourself from them and show consumers just how different and unique your product’s labels are.
3. Incorporate the Color of the Year into Your Label
Each year, Pantone comes out with a “color of the year,” that is supposed to be the “it” color used on labels, ads, and other print/web design pieces. Pantone’s color of the year 2019, Living Coral was the color for this year. If you are looking for a new color scheme or color to spice up your label this year, this is the color to use! This is a great, universal color that can be incorporated into every season- spring flowers, summer drinks, fall leaves, and even winter sweaters. No matter what industry you are printing for, there is room for this color to be in your color pallet.
4.Quality Labels Will Win Every Time
This is a trend that really isn’t a trend. To make your brand stand out amongst the rest and stay ahead of your competitors, it is important to have high quality, durable labels that will last and hold true to their color. When it comes to consumers, this kind of care and attention to detail is what will stand out on the shelves compared to other product labels. The saying “quality over quantity” is true- consumers will be more drawn to your brand by seeing eye-catching labels rather than seeing the same stale label over and over again. Make your label stand out.
Although 2019 is over halfway over, some of the most exciting times within the labeling industry have yet to come. Fall is almost here and the holidays close behind, and we can’t wait to see what trends will surface over the rest of the year and into 2020.
