Louisville Label has been partnering with Domino to advance our capabilities on our new, digital press. Along with superb print quality and color matching, the Domino also offers the ability to print two-dimensionally, with raised print and a textured feel. As the industry is progressing, textured labels are becoming ever popular and sought after. Allowing the possibility for fully textured labels, raised copy and fonts and a variety of looks available at little to no additional stock or press requirements, both the Domino and Louisville Label are working to bring textured labels to the forefront of the label industry.
Read on for more information on the possibilities and benefits of adding texture to your labels, options that are coming soon to Louisville Label.
Fully Textured Labels
Patterns are the key to the textured feel the Domino press can create. By taking a specific pattern such as a simple, plaid design and laying it behind your art, once printed, the plaid becomes raised sections on your label. By creating these patterns with an extra layer of white ink and being the first layer printed, the textures will not disrupt the coloring or art layout of your original piece. These patterns can be used to recreate wine, Kraft and other labels that typically require a specific stock and most with just the use of our basic, semi-gloss paper.
If there is a texture that cannot be met on our Domino press, we could look at using one of our textured varnishes on our Flexo presses. While the process on our Flexo presses could require a few extra steps, it will help to round out the available options.
Raised Copy & Fonts
With the new, Domino press we have the ability to not only create a textured feel throughout the whole label, but can also underlay the white on certain parts of the label to make specific words and art stand out. Areas customers have found this useful include raising words or titles in their labels and adding “feel” to important designs or pictures.
Again, just as the fully-textured labels are created, this would be done through adding a white layer at the bottom of your art, underneath all copy to be raised, keeping your original art untouched.
Little to No Additional Stock / Press Requirements
While many times, having specific textures and raised copy requires special stocks and other printing processes on press, the Domino printer will enable us to create a large majority of looks with just the use of white ink. This will help eliminate any extra costs and time from having to order the special stocks and tools and will also help make the jobs run more smoothly and cost efficiently once on press. One of the few exceptions to this would be using a varnish on our Flexo press to create a texture unavailable through the Domino, which would require an extra step to the process.
As you can see, there are many exciting possibilities in the two-dimensional world of labels coming soon to Louisville Label. Between being able to provide full texture to creating an embossed look only on specific areas, there are unlimited possibilities that could help to make your label stand out.
