Their Story
Ever since Terry Huff was a little boy, he dreamed of owning his own farm. He has fond memories of waking up early to help his father milk the cows by hand, and although his family didn’t have much, they were happy and proud of their dairy farm. Terry fell in love with the way of life on a family farm, both the hard work and the satisfaction that comes with it.
After working many years in construction, Terry longed to return to his roots as a farmer, so he began waking up early before work and milking the cows on their land. He would come home late after a hard day’s work and continue milking the cows until it was time for bed. He started dreaming of a way to make his passion a full-time job and with the help of his family. He eventually established his plans by opening Heavenly Homestead Cheese in 2012 on the same land that he grew up on!
Taste the Difference
Terry is passionate about the health benefits of cheese made from grass-fed cows. CLA is an essential fatty acid and antioxidant found in dairy products and meat that doctors believe may have cancer-fighting properties. Dr. Tilak Dhiman of Utah State University said that grass-fed products have 500 percent more CLA than grain-fed products, as well as 400 percent more vitamin A, 300 percent more vitamin E, 78 percent more beta-carotene and 75 percent more omega-3.
The (above) picture of cheese from Terry’s cows shows the difference! The cheese on the right is produced from Terry’s cows during the winter months when they are unavailable to graze the pasture. On the left, the rich butterscotch color of the cheese reflects the beta-carotene found in the grass that the cows eat when the weather is right.
Terry and his family are working on a project that will allow their herd to have access to grass and barley sprouts year-round!
