Louisville has a not-so-hidden gem that’s been here for nearly 100 years: Bloemer’s Food Company. Louisville Label’s been proudly printing the product labels for this history-rich company for the past 20 years. We print a variety of product labels for them, such as their Chile Powders and Chile Base, as well as several Private labels for their customers.
History of Bloemer’s
It all started in 1919 with Frank B. Bloemer selling his Chile Base from the back of his neighborhood grocery store. Soon, people fell in love with his flavors and the demand for Bloemer’s Chile Base grew. Before long, the company started manufacturing it and selling it to other grocery stores.
The hearty spices and passion that leaves people wanting more has carried throughout the years—through three generations, in fact.
Frank B. Bloemer’s son, Lawrence Bloemer, Sr., continued the dedication of his father by expanding the product line and establishing a successful food service distribution business. Lawrence Bloemer, Jr., then took over for his father and continued to grow the business. He sold the distribution company in order to focus on the Bloemer food line items. Bloemers has been also co-packing products for other companies since the 1990s.
In 2011, Timothy Bloemer, the son of Lawrence Bloemer, Jr., joined the company as the 4th generation to work at Bloemer Food Sales.
Bloemer’s Today
Four generations strong, Bloemers now carries not only the famous Chile Base, but also a variety of Chile Powders, BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef, BBQ Pork, and Big Reds Chili & Hot Dog Sauce, all of which carry the spirit of big flavors with ease of use. These products are available in both smaller stores and big chain groceries like Kroger.
While the Bloemer line of items has continued to grow, their presence throughout Louisville and the surrounding areas has expanded into several new markets with great success. Bloemer’s Food Sales manufactures and packages products ranging from spice mixes, BBQ sauces, salsa, salad dressings, gumbo, jambalaya, marinara sauce and pasta sauce. Some of the more recognized brands include Bourbon Barrel Foods, Humdingers, and Marks Feed Store.
